there was need

From its inception in 2007 the Mission of the Mary Elizabeth House Inc. has been clear and unwavering:

SUPPORT THE POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG, SINGLE MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH LIFE-SKILLS TRAINING, EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE GUIDANCE, COUNSELING, AND HOUSING.

Mary Elizabeth House Founder, Dr. Carolyn Graham, was the embodiment of our mission, and that charge remains the beating heart of our organization as we continue to support young, single mothers and their children in our community.

Our work far exceeds the baseline of help provided by public agencies.

Dr. Graham’s vision and our continued mantra is to provide the support necessary for teen mothers to become women of character and influence, with an economic stake in their communities.

It is a vision born of need

The need for The Mary Elizabeth House rose from a simple but compelling story of a young single mother, aging out of the foster care system whose unease at being on her own was palpable. “I felt her fear, her tears, and her unreadiness to enter the world on her own without the skills needed to live a meaningful life” Dr. Graham recalled.

For more than a decade now, the Mary Elizabeth House Inc has been a beacon of hope for young, single mothers and their children in our communities. As we continue in our mission, in our ministry, we are forever guided by the spirit and the commitment of our founder. Dr. Carolyn Graham.
